| Connoisseurs know the picture above means that Candid Wines' evening in support of WBEZ Chicago will include a few bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, producer of what is possibly the world's most famous Pinot Noir. What makes this dinner extra special is the presence of Fred Scherrer of the Scherrer Winery, one of California's leading independent wine makers. He will taste with us and share his thoughts on Pinot Noir and wine in general. In all of our travels and all of our tastings, few individuals in the world of wine have made the same impression on us here at Candid as Fred Scherrer. Fred is a scientist and an artist, a scholar and a musician, a deep thinker and a goofball, all wrapped into one. It takes a serious intellect to make great wine, but Fred reminds us that sometimes it is better to be less than serious in our approach to its enjoyment. Of course, we will taste a selection of Fred's wines as well. Not because we believe in California vs. France tastings, or that we are trying to prove anything with the association, but simply because our experiences with both wineries have made us genuinely happy. We look forward to sharing that happiness with some of WBEZ Chicago Public Radio's most generous wine loving donors. Many thanks to Adam Seger, Advanced Sommelier, winner of the 2008 Trefethen Passionate Wine Service Award, who will provide the wine service. Reservations limited to 16 people. Spots available through WBEZ Chicago. Interested parties should contact Jeff Dunlap at jdunlap (at) chicagopublicradio.org. Tickets are $5000 for two spaces.
