| Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley is wonderful. It can be light and easy with no pretensions or it can take its place in the halls of the great wines of France that age gracefully and seduce with their complexity. We wholeheartedly disagree with every critic (and there are many) who ever dismissed Chinon as nothing more than a simple wine for Parisian bistros. It can be delightfully easy going and simple, but it can also be so much more. Pascal and Beatrice Lambert created Les Chesnaies in 1987 with the belief that Chinon is a multi-faceted wine that is very different from one end of the appellation to the other. They also believe that vines should grow free from pesticides and chemicals. They believe that clean, healthy grapes produce clean, healthy wines. Twenty years later, their wines can be found all across France, Europe, Japan and more recently, the U.S.A. Fans of the more famous producers in Chinon like Joguet, Raffault and La Grille will appreciate the clearly Chinon-ness of Les Chesnaies, while noting that the wines are much more than mere copies of any famous neighbors. Wine lovers who enjoy layered, complex and age worthy reds at a fraction of the price of more famous crus will notice that Les Chesnaies is all that and more. Pascal and Beatrice Lambert make wine lovers happy, too. |
