granite, Ecu

Ecu, Granite

It is the color of white gold. An elegant nose with pronounced notes of mineral, flint, silex, and notes of citrus fruits and oyster shells. The attack is sharp and straight, the mouth crystalline imparting a great purity, fresh with the ambiance of the sea; mouth slim, fleshy and complex, very salty notes and notes of chalk and citrus fruits. A wine equipped with a long life with a persistent ambiance of the sea. A wine essentially to keep.

« The Granite will always be the Granite. This truism comes into its own this year with the mineral potential evident in the white flowers in the nose. Let us await the ripe fruit that falls between the two as time passes. »

Fred Niger is building on the foundation laid by Guy Bossard at Domaine de L’Ecu while stridently adhering to the organic and biodynamic practices Guy has used in the vines since the 1970’s. In addition to the single vineyard Muscadets Gneiss, Orthogneiss and Granite, which have arguably lifted the reputation of the appellation worldwide, Fred is introducing single varietal bottlings that are reshaping the face of the domaine. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Melon fermented in Amphora and without added sulfites introduce a whole new world of possibilities for producers in the area, just as Guy’s single vineyard bottlings did decades ago.
