Fred’s work at the Scherrer Winery is popping up in more and more critics’ notes. One example from a current release is Antonio Galloni’s comments of the 2010 Scherrer Vineyard Cabernet:
Rose petals, violets, mint, new leather and black cherries are some of the many nuances that flow across the palate in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Scherrer Vineyard. The 2010 is less overt and fruit-driven than the 2009, at least today. It should reward another decade or so of cellaring. I very much admire the sense of transparency here. 92+ points.

This of course is great news for a producer who has flown under the national radar for sometime. We would hasten to add, as our critic friends take note, that Fred’s wines live a lot longer than 10 years. We have 375 ml bottles of Zinfandel and Cab that are more than a decade old which show nothing but delicious, integrated fruit. There are indeed domestic wines that can be cellared for long periods. Come join us at Good Grapes and grab a few for your cellar.
