About Slow Food:

Not familiar with the good work of Slow Food around
the world?   Here is their mission:

Slow Food USA envisions a future food system that is
based on the principles of high quality and taste,
environmental sustainability, and social justice – in
essence, a food system that is good, clean and fair.
We seek to catalyze a broad cultural shift away from
the destructive effects of an industrial food system
and fast life; toward the regenerative cultural, social
and economic benefits of a sustainable food system,
regional food traditions, the pleasures of the table,
and a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life.

Please join today!

Still not convinced?  Come discover local
farmers, brewers, chefs and the occasional
wine distributor who believe that Slow Food
tastes better than fast food at one of Slow
Food Chicago many events.

Another benefit for Terra Madre, another a chance to eat,
Slowly.
Thanks to BigIron Barbecue for the pic!
A famous Englishman once wrote:
To Rub or Not to Rub,
that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler
'bove the coals to season
Our briskets and butts w
ith additional flavors,
Or simply to smoke a sea of organic chickens,
And after smoking eat them?  To chew; to feast;
Evermore; and by a feast to say we end
The misguided and dysfunctional food system
That Chicago is heir to, ‘tis a manifestation
Devoutly to be wish’d.  To chew; to feast;
To Feast; perchance to learn; ay there’s the rub;
For in that feast of dreams what education may come
As we shuffle off to grab more grub…

Join us at Kendall College as the Hospitality Students, professors, and the farmers who
raised the animals gather to present the secrets of the BBQ, including 48-hour smoked
meats, more than 20 sides.  Bring your appetite and all of your BBQ questions.
Benefits go to Slow Food Chicago's support of Terra Madre, a global meeting of small
farmers, educators and producers in Italy this October.  The more our farmers know,
the better we'll eat!

S
urprising that an Englishman knew about Chicago in 1600, isn't it?

Proceeds to benefit Slow Food Chicago delegates to Terra Madre.

Terra Madre is an international network of over 7,000 food producers, cooks, and
university educators from 150 countries, including over 800 delegates from the U.S.
united by a common goal of global sustainability in food. Across cultures and climates,
the “food communities” of Terra Madre come together to share innovative solutions
and time-honored traditions for keeping small-scale agriculture and sustainable food
production alive and well. The next edition of Terra Madre will be October 23-27, 2008.
