Scherrer Winery at The Oakville

Meet Fred Scherrer, whose family has farmed the same Alexander Valley property since 1899. His great-grandfather planted Zinfandel in 1912-1914 on St. George rootstock ordered from France — vines that have never been irrigated and are still producing today (113 years old). Fred's father Ed ran the farm for 93 years, surviving by selling grapes during Prohibition to Chicago home winemakers. Fred will pour wines from these dry-farmed old vines alongside modern plantings, sharing four generations of stories from vineyard to bottle.
